Our mission is to protect endangered Asian elephants in India, both captive and wild, by abolishing elephant slavery through awareness and cultivating empathy, operating rehabilitation centers for captive elephants, creating corridors for wild elephants and restoring their lost habitat, while also reducing human elephant conflict.

For us, humans are intrinsically compassionate and empathetic. By dispelling cultural myths and superstitious beliefs in a respectful manner, people can be empowered to make conscious decisions and become aware of their actions so they can discern how their behaviors are impacting so many innocent lives. The darkness of ignorance can be dispelled by shining the light of knowledge.

And once people are made to realize how important elephants are for the survival of many species on the planet including humans, our hope is that people will be inspired to do everything possible to release the elephants where they belong – in the wild. Freedom is the basic birthright of every single living being on earth.

VFAES is a 501(c)(3) organization with a vision to protect endangered Asian elephants and their habitats in India, while also ensuring that tribal people and those living near the forest fringes have their basic needs met, so they will be inspired to coexist peacefully with these magnificent animals.
